Are the dev team trying to pull a Weiss & Benioff exit like the way they killed GoT so they could get on to the new Star Wars? Maybe the dev team have another game they want to work on but are contracted the MM so are slowly killing it so they can get there sooner. It's about the only thing that makes sense at this point.
