I'm much more of a passer than a runner so the DB cover 2 sting blitz 7 and the cover 2/3 blitz 4 with the contain are the plays I see all the time. Most of the time people set these up, they are actually running what it looks like (i.e. they don't set it up as a bluff and just play coverage) so I usually have a pretty good idea of what it coming.
Running often kills me when I use that formation on D so my first objective when someone uses this defense a lot is to try an inside zone out of whatever shotgun formation I'm in or audible to a single back formation and run a dive play to gain some yards and hopefully force them into a different defense. Sometimes this works and they quickly abandon the formation but other times I do that 3 times and it's 4th and 6 at which point I look for something else to try.
First off, does anyone know if them stopping the run out of these formations is something that they adjust their defense to do (and therefore it makes sense to mix things up) or if I keep pounding the rock against their 3 down linemen I will have success. Also I'm typically running an inside zone out of a compressed shotgun formation or dive out of an under center formation available in the saints playbook so if anyone has any suggestions of better run plays I can audible to from a shotgun set or adjustments to the runs (maybe motioning a WR as I snap) I would love to try them out.
