First, it’s utterly stupid it’s in the game at all. It never, ever shows up in a real situation ever.
Second, at best it should be an all or nothing defense. You call the wrong play against it, then you lose. Fine, I can accept that.
But schemes like vert and smashmouth have no answer because we don’t have a shotgun pass option. With juiced D linemen, high power teams and olineman lagging behind, it’s getting worse and worse.
Stop the clown show and either give us an option at that has as much of chance to defeat (95% of the time) as it has to destroy every other play (which is 95% of the time)... or get it out of the defensive playbook.
